Michael Stumpf – Now Sing, 2014

Installation of a multi part sculpture on the external balcony of the new Reid Building by Steven Holl Architects at the Glasgow School of Art. This work was commissioned by GSA as part of Glasgow International Festival of Visual Arts Supported Programme. The installation required the construction of a discreet base / ballast to support the work which was formed on the external balcony. A specially devised steel base structure was fabricated by Scott Associates Sculpture and Design Ltd to support the work and to provide background structure for hoisting attachments.

The unusual nature and configuration of the work and its intended location required a trial assembly and test lift prior to transport to the new Reid Building for installation. The work was painstakingly hoisted into position as there was less than 750mm tolerance between the full lifting assembly and the projecting overhang of the newly installed glass façade.
